PET TRADE - WILD ANIMALS DO NOT MAKE GOOD PETS!
The trade and keeping of wild animals as pets causes the suffering of millions of individual
animals, threatens public health and safety, disrupts ecosystems and drives species to extinction.
The wild animal pet trade in Canada involves hundreds of different animal species and tens of thousands of individuals
annually. Domestic breeding, importation and illegal poaching all feed Canada's wildlife pet trade. Most wild animal pets
end up in the hands of private individuals where they suffer from inappropriate housing and care and poor nutrition.
Zoocheck works to end the keeping of wild animals as pets through investigative programs, public
education initiatives and by supporting local campaigns across the country that are aimed at controlling the proliferation
of wild animal pets.
