CITY OF LONDON REMAINS SILENT ON REPTILIA ISSUE
Ask London City Council members why Reptilia is still keeping prohibited and restricted animals in the City
In February 2023 nine London City Council members (listed below) voted to reject changes to Animal Control By-Law PH-3 that would allow Reptilia to keep prohibited and restricted animals.
When Reptilia opened their shopping mall zoo in April 2023 they populated it with animals they were not allowed to keep. The City took them to court, but after nearly a year of waiting and shortly before the trial date arrived, City lawyers announced there was a settlement being considered. No details were provided.
From March – December 2024, there were numerous appearances before a scheduling judge. At the first one the City lawyer told the judge a settlement had been reached. There were eight more appearances and each time City lawyers asked for an adjournment as the details of the settlement had not been finalized. The latest appearance was scheduled for December 2024 but neither the City or Reptilia representatives attended and it is unclear what the status of the case and the settlement is, as the City has not made any information public.
Please write to the Mayor and Councilors who previously rejected changes to Animal Control By-Law PH-3 and ask them what’s going on. The public has been left in the dark as no information has been made available and Reptilia continues to operate in apparent violation of the City’s Animal Control By-Law PH-3.
