WAYNE McCRORY – Wildlife Biologist, RPBio, Author
Wayne McCrory is a long-practicing registered professional biologist (RPBio) who has decades of experience in wildlife research, studying environmental impacts, cumulative effects analysis, and management/conservation issues in western Canada. Over the past 20 years, Wayne’s research on wild horses in the BC Chilcotin region has included field research on habitat use and response to wildfires, as well as genetic studies. He has also worked with the Xeni Gwet’in-Tsilhqot’in Nation on a wild horse management plan and guidelines for wildlife and wild horse tourism viewing.
McCrory has published two critical reviews (2015 & 2024) of the Alberta government’s wild horse management program, concluding that it lacked scientific rigor or any substantive evidence that wild horses are causing any damage to the Alberta Foothills habitats in which they live. Also he also recently published an award winning book on his wild horse research titled The Wild Horses of the Chilcotin: Their History and Future, which is available through all traditional and online booksellers.
